The birth of Jesus reveals that God knows we are a work in progress. God didn’t send Jesus as a grown man down to earth. Jesus started life just like we did as a helpless dependent infant.
What a comfort to know that God understands human nature and the process of growing from infancy to maturity. God protected and provided for Jesus through Joseph and Mary. Jesus grew in strength, wisdom, and in God’s grace daily. It took thirty years before Jesus was ready to fulfill a three year mission to train His disciples, to pay the ultimate sacrifice for our sins, and to give us the gift of living with Him for eternity.
If it took Jesus time to learn and grow it will take us time. Like Jesus, we too will face persecution and hardships when we follow God because we live in a broken sinful world. But God made a way for us to walk in the authority and power of Jesus on this earth today and every day through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit inside of us.
Because of Jesus we have hope, grace, forgiveness, eternal life, and the opportunity to honor all His sacrifice and gifts by knowing, understanding, and living out all of God’s will and ways no matter what it costs us on this earth. Because of the cross and the resurrection of Jesus we can be reborn. We get the chance to learn and grow over time just like He did. Jesus is not with us in human form any longer but when we nurture an intimate daily relationship with Christ we can live in the confidence and experience him dwelling in us every day.
Our journey of faith with Christ is a process just like our human maturity. We all have a unique purpose and role in the enormous eternal plan of God just as Jesus does. Be determined to fulfill God’s will for your life for one day you will spend eternity with Him.
