Do You Want Spiritual Freedom?

Do You Want Spiritual Freedom?

  • Can your spirit be free if your mind is fixed and driven by imperfect, temporary, ever-changing earthly things?
  • Can your spirit be free if your heart is hard and your spirit is not saved by the grace of Jesus Christ?

Our Perceptions of Freedom in America

America’s freedoms were created from a set of rules in the Constitution, founded on the morals and standards in God’s Word, the Bible. Without the unchanging, just rules from the Bible, imperfect people would continue to manipulate rules to fulfill their self-focused desires. This truth is verified when we look at history and our current world leaders. We can see their corruption and destruction throughout the world.

Although many people in America view themselves as free and with freedoms and rights, how can your spirit be free if you are under the influence and dominion of the devil? Where will you find your peace?

Realities of Our Human Condition

Unfortunately, we are all born sinful and without the full knowledge and a personal relationship with God or the salvation of Jesus Christ—the consequence of Adam and Eve’s choice to sin made every person born sinful. Without Christ’s salvation, we can only function from our imperfect, self-focused sinful nature.

In our human condition, our hearts are deceitful and sick.

“The heart is more deceitful than all else, And is desperately sick; Who can understand it? 10 “I, the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind, Even to give to each man according to his ways, According to the results of his deeds.
– Jer. 17:9-10, NASB 1995

We are vulnerable to being corrupted by our desires and power, especially if we have not received Christ’s salvation and we are not living as his disciples. How can anyone be free in any way when they are slaves to their flesh desires and are under the influence of Satan? Scripture tells us.

Therefore, just as one man’s sin entered into the world and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned.

– Rom. 5:12, NASB 1995

Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin.

– John 8:34, NASB 1995

The God (Satan) of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

– 2 Cor. 4:4, NASB 1995

13 For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.

16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. 17 For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. 19 Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, 21 envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things, there is no law. 24 Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

– Gal. 5:13, 16-24, NASB 1995

Jesus is the Only One Who Can Free Us

Many people get confused by our earthly definitions, experiences, and understanding of freedom that is only temporary. Jesus shows us how to live in his love, joy, and peace and how to overcome our spiritual challenges now and for eternity. He is true freedom!

For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death.

– Rom. 8:2, NASB 1995

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

– Rom. 6:23, NASB 1995

18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me,

Because He anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor.

He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captives,

And recovery of sight to the blind,

To set free those who are oppressed,

– Luke 4:18, NASB 1995

When we receive Christ’s salvation and walk hand in hand with him daily as his disciple, we experience what it means to be free in our spirit and soul (mind, will, and emotions). We will have many wounds and scars that need healing. When we let Jesus and the soothing healing balm of the Holy Spirit help us, we will find peace, contentment, and an everlasting confident assurance that we will walk into heaven’s eternity when our body dies. We are no longer slaves to sin and death.

To be truly free in our spirit begins when we ask Jesus to be our sovereign LORD and work with him daily to be his disciples. Jesus gives us the power to spiritually overcome our challenges as he transforms us into his likeness. We will feel a new freedom in our spirit no matter what happens to us on this earth.

Our freedom in Christ brings supernatural peace and joy that draws people to the hope and light of Christ. We become the testimony of Jesus. When we obey the Great Commission to share the reason for our peace, joy, and freedom, we help others find true freedom in Jesus Christ. Let our lives reflect God’s truth that can set people free on earth and into eternity!

Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

– 2 Cor. 3:17, NASB 1995
