Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Ephesians 6:17 (NIV)
For years I have read this scripture above when I read Ephesians 6:10-20 and yet today I saw the helmet of salvation in a new light. I questioned if we are saved by faith and it must come from our heart why does God tell us to put on the helmet of salvation?
Because God made us with free will and we have to believe in our minds and surrender to Him so He can enter and live in our hearts. The battlefield for whom we believe and what we choose goes on in our minds and is experienced and expressed in our words and actions. God is clear that our thoughts start our opportunities to honor him or to sin.
Salvation is a choice for us and it is a gift of God’s amazing grace through the sacrifice of His son Jesus. To place our salvation as a helmet on our heads every morning reminds us to keep God first in our minds. With God in our minds He will empower us to be ready to face and overcome any challenge our day may bring.
