As a child, you couldn’t wait to grow up, to drive, and to be in control of your life. As an adult, you spend your time waiting in lines, for a better job, a vacation, or the circumstances to change in your life.
Everyone will wait in this broken world because God created us from His master plan within the confines of time. Without time there would not be an order of progression, a sense of accomplishment, or a master plan. God created all things in a particular order at a particular time to complete His specific perfect plan. You were created for such a time as this and placed on this earth to fulfill God’s plan in His timing.
The summary of God’s plan sounds ideal until you factor in the imperfect flesh temptation to control the timing in your life without asking God first. When you asked Jesus to reign in your life, He implanted the seed of the fruit of the spirit of patience. It is your responsibility to learn how to partner with the Holy Spirit to nurture your seed of patience into maturity. As a child of God, you must learn how to train your mind and thoughts to conform to the example of Christ.
You cannot stop the reality of waiting, but you can choose your mindset and attitude. Will you choose to be frustrated and roll your eyes as you sigh and shift your weight from one foot to the other to make sure everyone around you knows you are more inconvenienced than those in front of you? Will you set your mind to see waiting as your opportunity to pause and look around as you ask God for direction, for who to bless, and who He wants you to help? Waiting releases you from being in control while it gives you the chance to trust God’s timing until it’s your turn.
When you profess to be a disciple of Jesus Christ, you must choose to be a blessing as you wait patiently. You may feel awkward when you first begin to pause and check your attitude, but your awkwardness indicates you are learning something new. Growing in a deep progressive personal relationship with Christ will empower you to partner with him to mature your gift of patience. God is all about giving us as many opportunities to develop and mature as we need. In other words, He will keep allowing various types of people and circumstances in your life until you learn to ask Him what to do as you wait with a loving and kind attitude.
To follow God with your whole heart is to trust His perfect plan for you and the world. God decided when Jesus would be born and how long he would live. God planned for Jesus to die on a cross to pay for every sin. He also chose when to resurrect Jesus to show the world that those in Christ will also be resurrected. God’s master plan reunited Him with Jesus forever when he returned to heaven and one day God will send Jesus back to gather all His children to Him. I’m so thankful God will not rush His perfect plan. His patience gives you and I more chances to honor Him and share His gospel as we mature our patience and wait with grace.
God knows the days of your life and all the opportunities you will have if you wait patiently for His plan. When you face an opportunity to wait, speak the promise God gave to His prophet Isaiah, “But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31 Chose to wait in the mindset and with the love of Christ, and you will be renewed and empowered to live in mature patience and glorify God!
