Is it possible to find perfect love in imperfect people? Absolutely, when we live in a progressive and intimate relationship with Jesus every day as his disciple!
Perfect Love
God sent His perfect love down to earth in His son, Jesus Christ. Only God and Jesus are perfect. Therefore, they are the ONLY source of perfect love.
9 God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. 10 This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.
16 God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them. 17 And as we live in God, our love grows more perfect. So we will not be afraid on the day of judgment, but we can face him with confidence because we live like Jesus here in this world. 18 Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. 1 John 4:9-10; 16-18 NLT
The passages above tell us all perfect love originates from God. It flows in us through Jesus Christ as he dwells in us from our Salvation through the Holy Spirit. In our human condition, and because of our painful love experiences, it’s difficult to wrap our head around their perfect and unconditional love.
How You Can Be Deceived
I want you to think of a time when you felt immersed in love. Some of you have felt unconditional love through a parent, grandparent, or friend as you grew up. The closest understanding of unconditional love I’ve experienced happened when I first held each of my sons after they were born. I know not every woman has had this experience, and I don’t mean to cause any pain. I’m only sharing my truth. Apart from the birth of my sons, it took me forty-five years to see Christ’s perfect love that had been with me from the time he entered my heart, at the age of seven.
Because we operate out of what we know, we used the imperfect love definition and design we formed as we grew up. We formed our broken love design from the messages we heard, the experiences we had, and the beliefs we formed about ourselves and love. Without knowing how we could live in Christ’s exceptional love design, we believed we had our imperfect understanding of love or another person’s.
Our ultimate need to feel loved is the strongest need we have. Until we discover how to let Christ’s perfect love flow in us and work through us, we can be easily deceived into thinking we just need to find our “perfect love,” in another person. There IS only one perfect love, and it is Jesus Christ. He is already living in you, if you have accepted him as your Lord and Savior.
You Can Thrive in Christ’s Perfect Love
To thrive in his perfect love, you will need to foster an intimate and growing relationship with him. Get to know his heart, character, and unconditional love through praise music, prayer, and by studying God’s word. Share your heart, pain, anger, and praise with him.
As your heart draws closer to his, you will feel and receive his perfect love. Let him show you how his love definition and design are founded in respect and honor to God, yourself, and others. He will show you how his exceptional love is different than the worlds.
If you are still searching for unconditional pure love, and Jesus is dwelling in you, it’s time to receive ALL of his abundance. It’s time to work with him and learn how to let his love flow freely through you and to all the people in your life. Let Christ’s love be a bright beam of hope, joy, grace, mercy, and peace to others as you live in his abundant love. You were designed to live and to thrive in his perfect exceptional love, so live be bold and love others as he loves you!
